About Lewes
LEWES: The picturesque town of Lewes, dominated by the ruins of a Norman castle, contains medieval streets, narrow twittens and interesting architecture - including the handsome, timbered House given by Henry VIII to his fourth wife, Ann of Cleves. It still retains many small, specialist shops (antiques, art, crafts, books, jewellers and silversmiths, food, Harvey's Brewery shop etc). There is a good range of restaurants and pubs - some stocking the local ales brewed in the town. Amenities include golf, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and leisure centre, gardens, riverside and downland walks, museum, nature reserves, and horse-riding.
